"You get the same whack
off these poems as you do when reading Juvenal or Simon Armitage...Buy this." The Independent
Richard Evans possessess a mesmerising and sometimes shocking
poetic voice. This, his first collection, 'The Zoo Keeper', took readers and
critics by storm. It has been described as 'poetry as it should be, red in tooth
and claw', and reviewers across the country have praised this young poet's forceful
and insightful use of language and imagery. The book also contains photographs
by Camilla Stapleton-Hibbert.
"A
poet prepared to take risks and push language to its limits." Catherine Smith,
New Writer
In Orbiting, Richard Evans' second collection of poetry, we encounter a taut
and concentrated poetic voice. The darkness of Evans' earlier work remains,
but is now tempered by a reflexivity which is suitably lunar in its vantage.
A narrative of grief runs through the collection, at times visceral and emotionally
raw, at times subjugated to near-vanishing point. Still, there is a wry humour,
which off-sets the darkest of the material, making this collection as readable
as it is intense. Orbiting also includes several haunting illustrations by Ed
Boxall.
